Volunteer & VolunTeen Youth Cores - Leaders & Members needed.

Volunteer Youth Core Group Leaders
ages 25-40 prefered, all applicants considered
The Volunteer Youth Core is a new group volunteer leadership development program for young adults aged 18-26. The Volunteer Youth Core will provide a social atmosphere that welcomes new ideas from its members and assists youth in putting their ideas to work to meet the mission of the Iroquoia BTC and the Conservancy. The program is currently under development. 

We require 4-5 leaders in the Hamilton/Burlington area to:
  • Work together with the Volunteer Management & Membership Director to create and implement the program
  • run monthly meetings
  • schedule regular events
  • act as facilitators, increasingly delegating tasks to VYC members
  • Guide the VYC members in developing their own public education program.
  • Keep accurate, up to date, secure online records.
  • For the 2009-2010 academic year assist with the development and implementation of the VolunTeen Youth Core Program (for high school students).
Group Leader Applicants should have experience working with children and/or youth and/or young adults. Work, post-secondary, &/or volunteer experience with summer camps, outdoor education, teaching, leadership, boys & girls  clubs, YMCA/YWCA, life guarding, Scouting or Guiding is reccomended. This is a great opportunity to have a long lasting positive impact for the Bruce Trail, The Niagara Escarpement, and in the lifes of young people!

Please note that successfule applicants will go through a higher level of volunteer screening than typical for the majority of new IBTC volunteers including a police check.

Volunteer Youth Core Members 
ages 18-26 or 17 if in post-secondary studies:

The Volunteer Youth Core is a new group volunteer leadership development program for young adults aged 18-26. The Volunteer Youth Core will provide a social atmosphere that welcomes new ideas from its members and assists youth in putting their ideas to work to meet the mission of the Iroquoia BTC and the Conservancy. The program is currently under development. The goal of the VYC is to train the next generation of Iroquoia BTC volunteers. VYC members will gain experience will all areas of volunteering with our club. The four most active areas will be: 
  • Leading hikes and organizing social events
  • Developing public education programs focused on Conservation (The Niagara Escarpment is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve).
  • Trail Clean up.
  • Staffing special events

Please include: "Volunteer Youth Core" and your postal code in the subject line. While the inital program will be in West Hamilton and West Burlington, we anticipate more VYC groups starting in other areas over the next academic year.
Please note that there will be a minimal fee (TBD) for this program to make it self-supporting (so as to not take funds away from conservation and trail maintenance). 

VolunTeen Youth Core Group Leaders:
Similar to the Volunteer Youth Core, the VolunTeen Youth Core will provided leadership, teamwork, and volunteer opportunities, but for teens in high school, instead of post-secondary students & young adults. This program will start during the 2009-2010 academic year (date TBD). We are seeking four leaders to develop and run the program.  Please see the Volunteer Youth Core Leader position posting for further details.

VolunTeen Youth Core Members
High School Students ages 13-19:
Similar to the Volunteer Youth Core, the VolunTeen Youth Core will provided leadership, teamwork, and volunteer opportunities, but for teens ages 13-19 in high school, instead of post-secondary students & young adults. This program will start during the 2009-2010 academic year (date TBD). The first group will be in West Hamilton. Additional groups will be started in other geographic areas based on demand. 

There will be a limited number of openings when this new program starts. Applications will be offered on a first come first serve basis. Teens living from who will be 13years old by December 31, 2009 are invited to email us now at volunteeribtc@gmail.com to get on the list. Please include: "Volunteer Youth Core" and your postal code in the subject line. This will help us in determing where the second group should be started.
